Architecture & Engineering
for Cold Storage & Food Processing Facilities
From custom freezer layouts to structural framing, Plump Engineering designs end-to-end cold docks, food processing facilities, and refrigeration infrastructure.
Services For Food Processing & Cold Storage Facilities
Plump Engineering, Inc. brings extensive experience across the food and beverage industries, delivering full-service architectural, structural, MEP, and refrigeration engineering for complex processing plants, distribution centers, and cold storage facilities. Our integrated, five-discipline approach ensures strict sanitary compliance, optimized thermal performance, and zero-gap coordination from initial design through facility commissioning.
Freezer Layout & Design
Complete freezer design engineered for thermal performance, structural loads, and the realities of continuous sub-zero operation.
Cooler Layout & Design
Cooler design and layout built around your product flow and refrigeration equipment, from a single room to a full facility.
Bottling & Canning Line Engineering
Structural, mechanical, and electrical support for bottling and canning production lines, engineered around your equipment and throughput.
IMP Walls & Ceiling Systems
Insulated metal panel design for walls and ceilings, including the support plans that carry panel loads back to the structure.
Thermal Doors
Thermal door design and structural support engineered to maintain the seal and insulation your cold chain depends on.
Freezer Insulated Floor Warming Plans
Floor warming system design that prevents frost heave beneath freezer slabs, protecting your foundation for the life of the facility.
Mechanical & Refrigeration Equipment Plans
Structural and mechanical coordination for refrigeration equipment, including support of condensers on roofs or exterior concrete pads.
Building Layout & Egress Plans
Facility layout and code-compliant egress planning for buildings where cold storage areas add their own life safety requirements.
Lighting
Lighting design suited to cold storage and production environments, balancing visibility, energy code, and equipment durability.
Can-Line Engineering for Beverage Facilities
Plump Engineering, Inc. delivers integrated architectural design and engineering services for high-speed beverage packaging facilities, including high-capacity can-line and bottling.
Leveraging all five disciplines in-house, our team seamlessly coordinates structural equipment pads, sanitary drainage, process piping, and electrical infrastructure. This unified approach eliminates cross-discipline conflicts, minimizes plant downtime, and accelerates line commissioning.

A warehouse, reborn as a freezer for Harvest Meats
PEI provided structural engineering to convert an existing warehouse, originally built with bowstring trusses, into a new freezer matched to existing freezer construction, along with modifications to the loading dock to create a cooler and cold dock. The new design used a steel frame with open web steel joists, corrugated metal roof decking, and insulated wall and roof panels, with the steel frame supporting both the existing exterior concrete wall panels and new insulated panels spanning from slab to roof.
PEI coordinated across all internal disciplines and with the project's refrigeration designer, turning a structural retrofit into a fully functioning cold storage facility.
